Poultry Show Canceled
After much deliberation and consultation with Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development's (MDARD) State Veterinarian Dr. Nora Wineland, MDARD's Director, Gary McDowell, has decided to stop 2022 poultry and waterfowl exhibitions in Michigan until such time that the state goes 30 days without a new detection of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in domestic poultry. This decision is effective immediately to further protect against the spread of HPAI, helping to keep Michigan's domestic poultry flocks safe.

HPAI is a highly contagious virus that can be spread in various ways from flock to flock, including by wild birds, through contact with infected poultry, by equipment, and on the clothing and shoes of caretakers. As new cases of HPAI continue to be identified across the nation and in Michigan, bringing in poultry from different flocks to a central location creates a significant risk.

With the Eaton County Fair being less than 60 days away, we are forced to cancel all poultry exhibits for this year.

Poultry exhibitors have an option of exhibiting photos and information about their projects on the poultry cages in place of the birds. Although this is not the same as the live exhibit, we hope that exhibitors take this oportunity to showcase their projects and their hard work. If one wishes to have a display, please fill out the Poultry Pen Request Form and turn it in to the Superintendent by the due date. There will be no cage fee.

In place of the poultry showmanship classes, the department will be holding a Skill-A-Thon as well as other activities on show day. If an exhibitor wishes to participate in the Skill-A-Thon, please enter in the "Poultry Showmanship - Skill-A-Thon" section in FairEntry. We hope to make show day and fair week enjoyable and educational for our poultry exhibitors, even with their animals being required to stay at home.

It is still being decided if market birds will be able to sell in the Small Animal Sale at the Fair. This page will be updated with more infromation as it becomes available.
